Ramp Safety Fact Sheet

Mar 27, 2018 | Safety Essentials

Fuel trucks invariably have a high centre of gravity and are prone to rollover

  • Always check mirrors before slowing
  • To control the inertia and centrifugal forces speed must be slowed to a safe speed for that particular ramp
  • Safe speed varies, depending on ramp sharpness, multi-lane, weather, traffic, etc.
  • Remember posted ramp speeds are for passenger vehicles not heavy trucks
  • If the temperature is near freezing or if the ramp is slippery or loose gravel slow the vehicle down even more to maintain traction
  • Use your eye lead time to lead your truck gently into the curve and smooth and controlled steering
  • Once the truck is slowed sufficiently apply gentle throttle coming out of the of the curve
