Tow Truck Driver Training Program

MTO Approved and Developed in Collaboration with the Canadian Towing Association.

Program Description

The Tow Truck Driver Training program is MTO approved and has been developed by DriveWise in conjunction with the Canadian Towing Association. The training program consists of both online learning modules and on-the-job training (OJT). Participants will be required to successfully complete both components of the course in order to receive the certificate of completion.

Requirements To Take Training

Must be a member of the Canadian Towing Association Inc. Memberships available (See membership application at ctagroup.ca) to become a member. To become a trainer you must first be a member of the Canadian Towing Association, then contact [email protected] at DriveWise for contracts and further instructions.

To become an MTO approved trainer to supervise the OJT component of the program trainer you must be or employ an approved Trainer Licensed by DriveWise (Qualifications include a minimum of verifiable 4 years including formal training and Tow Truck driving experience).

Once the trainer is approved they can commence in driver training.

Driver training applies to new hires without a tow license or current employees that will require this upgrade prior to renewal.

Must utilize a neat and organized yard.

Valid G licence with clear abstract.

Clean Criminal Background Check.

Course Outline

Once you register for the program, you will be sent login credentials to complete the online self-paced training. The online training covers the basic knowledge that is required for light duty tow truck operations and is broken up into eleven 20-minute modules.

There is a short quiz at the end of each module. Participants must receive 80% on each to be successful.

On-the-Job Training

For the on-the-job training portion of the curriculum, performance competency is achieved when the participant can repeat the skills of operation safely according to the competency statement on the OJT record.

The program is rooted in the DriveWise 6-Star Approach to Cooperative Driving. This proven learning model reinforces good driving habits while modifying drivers’ behaviours, and improving their decision-making ability.

Canadian Towing Association

The Canadian Towing Association is a registered not for profit Corporation and all income will be used to manage the office and make improvements to the towing industry we have all longed for.
