Building Confidence on the Road (and in your life)

Nov 14, 2016 | Rules of the Road

Confidence is a crucial skill to have in life. It is a state of being in which you trust in your ability to make the right actions and decisions. It is important to have confidence in order to be effective in a leadership role. Or in any role that requires you to contribute and make decisions that will affect yourself and others. Whether as family members, co-workers, employers, or friends, we are required to exercise our confidence in some measure every day.

Confidence is an especially important trait to have on the road. You don’t know who you are sharing the road with, but you can help make it a safer place by having confidence in your skills and ability to practice safe and cooperative driving. Few people do this innately, but thankfully, confidence can be built over time and with learning, practice and positive thinking. Let’s examine how confidence can be developed and increased on the road and in life.

Planning and Preparation

Planning and preparing novice and professional drivers to deal safely and effectively with new and difficult scenarios is at the heart of what we do. By using simulators, we help build students confidence by allowing them to practice in a safe and controlled environment. This is a unique opportunity to help you prepare for scenarios before having to experience them firsthand. We hope you’ll never need to, but are confident that you will feel better prepared if you ever find yourself in that situation on the road.

Learning, Knowledge and Training

At DriveWise we are dedicated to fostering a supportive educational environment that delivers comprehensive theory and training through an experiential method. Lifelong learning is encouraged with our advanced driver and refresher courses. We are also a registered private career college.
By taking our courses, you will be well equipped with the expert knowledge and training to make those important decisions on the road.

Positive Thinking

Positive thinking is progressive! negative thinking is not. By choosing to think positively, we are better able to see our setbacks and weaknesses constructively and work towards improving them.
Positive thinking also encourages cooperation and teamwork. It works hand-in-hand with confidence in helping you to achieve your goals. Our students are encouraged to ask questions and have discussions. Every mistake is a learning experience, and learning helps increase confidence.

Experience

As we gain experience, we also build a track record and case for our own competencies – the ability to fulfill certain tasks. Driving is certainly one of them, and a tool that you will likely use every day.
Experienced drivers have been around the block (literally) and are more confident as result of having dealt with various situations.
Set your goals, make them measurable, specific and attainable – then learn and grow from your experiences.

Be Assertive

You are a unique individual with your own voice and presence.
So go on, take the wheel and build your confidence in you!
