DriveWise @ Skills Ontario Young Women's Career Exploration Event

On Dec 1st, we partnered up with Skills Ontario, a province-wide charitable non-profit that is focused on building Ontario’s skilled trades and technologies workforce. They enable and empower all youth, including women and Aboriginal youth, to consider a career in the skilled trades and technologies.

Skills Ontario held a series of Career Exploration Events across Ontario for girls in grades 9 through to 12 to learn about careers in the skilled trades and technologies. These events provide participants the opportunity to meet, network, and enjoy a meal with female mentors who have already chosen a career path in the skilled trades and technologies. They reached out to us with hopes that we would bring our simulator to one of their events to simulate the trucking experience, and of course we said yes!

We participated in the event held at the Nottawasaga Inn for SCDSB and SMCDSB students.

With an early start, we unloaded our TranSim 4 simulator into the Crystal Ballroom. The doors opened at 9:30 am to enthusiastic groups of female high school students. The simulator was a very popular attraction. There are only about 4% of women in trades in Canada. We hope more females will break down barriers and consider a career in professional driving careers such as trucking.
