Collaborate 2017
Invitations have been going out for our 6th Annual Advanced Learning and Technology Expo on Sept 21st, 2017. If you are a professional involved in training and technology, you will not want to miss this event. Our attendees come from near and far, and include fleet managers, health and safety specialists, training officers and consultants. Each year we bring in a cross section of experts from different fields to deliver engaging talks and presentations on everything from competency based education to the future of VR (Virtual Reality) technology. Highlights from his year's agenda include training needs analysis, fleet management and an expert panel discussion. Topics and speakers will be confirmed in the coming weeks and updated on this news blog.
Ruthanne Krant from Georgian College will be delivering a workshop presentation on Training Needs Analysis. This is an important and relevant topic for any professional who is involved in the training process in their company. As an expert with many years of experience in teaching and training adults, and coaching others to do the same, we look forward to having Ruthanne share her insights and expertise at Collaborate.
Training Needs Analysis: When Is Training A Solution to Performance Problems?
Business owners, supervisors and instructors often address performance problems with training solutions. Training is sometimes viewed as a band-aid that will ‘fix’ performance issues. This session will explore when training is a solution and when it’s not. Why waste valuable training time and dollars trying to fix a problem that needs to be addressed with a solution other than training? Participants will be asked to assess various performance issues that they may encounter in their workplaces and diagnose whether training is the appropriate solution.
Speaker Profile: Ruthanne Krant, M.Ed.
Ruthanne holds a Master of Education Degree from the University of Toronto. She has been involved in workplace training and post-secondary teaching since 1982. Workplace education programs Ruthanne has developed and/or taught include: Competency-Based Curriculum Development, Teaching and Training Adults Program, Supervisory Skills, Crucial Conversations, Conflict Resolution and Mediation, and Leadership Series. Ruthanne has been involved in various line management roles for most of her career. Some of these include: Program Supervisor; Director, Human Resources Development, and Academic Director, Business and Management Studies. She has held Program Coordination roles in Human Resource Studies and most recently assisted with the start-up of Georgian College’s Honours Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Leadership Degree.
Ruthanne very much enjoys working with organizations and individuals to assess needs and design training and development solutions. Her work has been recognized by the Georgian College Board of Governors and teaching peers. She is the recipient of the Board of Governors Award of Excellence in Administration, the Centre for Teaching and Learning Award for Teaching Excellence and the Professor Emerita designation. Ruthanne is currently trying to figure out how to live a semi-retired life with her husband James and dog Ratchet. She is the proud mother of Lindsay and Robert, both recently married and starting out on their adult lives.
